2010 will be a year of continued reshaping: auctions will remain smaller and private sales will be preferred by many collectors. In 2005, due to the timely convergence of several factors, the art investment story started gaining traction. A substantial increase in art prices sparked investment ambitions and led outsiders to take note. An excess of global liquidity and the allure of alternative investments combined to attract a new breed of buyer—the “investor-collector” and the “speculative-collector”. Taking stock of today’s art market, many observers are left asking (even in light of some recent high profile prices at the end of 2009): were the significant increases all hyperbole generated by a global asset bubble? If art is truly uncorrelated, as many argue, why did prices and turnover drop so precipitously during the financial market free-fall? And perhaps most important of all, has the market finally hit bottom and started to stabilise?

De sinds augustus 2009 geopende Kunstmarkt aan de Van Speykstraat 129 presenteert en verkoopt een groot en uiteenlopend assortiment van kunst en designproducten. Bij de Kunstmarkt kan je op een tastbare manier kunstshoppen zoals in de supermarkt. Er wordt daarmee een laagdrempelig alternatief voor een galerie geboden. Tegen betaalbare prijzen kan iedereen originele kunst aanschaffen.
De Kunstmarkt werkt vanuit de visie dat kunst voor iedereen toegankelijk en betaalbaar kan zijn. Door kunst tastbaar te presenteren wordt het gemakkelijker gemaakt om iets aan te schaffen. De kunstsupermarkt moet een winkel zijn waar je mooie dingen kunt kopen, van kunst, gadgets en design tot fotografie, mode en toegepaste kunst zoals handgemaakte tassen.

Recovery after annus horribilis – The Art Newspaper

Despite the recovery in US museums’ endowments as the stockmarkets rose towards the end of 2009, museum directors are continuing to cut or freeze their budgets, The Art Newspaper has established in a survey of 25 leading institutions.
As he prepares to open a new gallery in London, dealer Iwan Wirth tells us how the recession has affected his business. Iwan Wirth, 39, is one of the three founders of Hauser & Wirth which has galleries in London, Zürich and New York and represents artists such as Paul McCarthy, Louise Bourgeois, Roni Horn and Wilhelm Sasnal. He is opening a new space in London’s Mayfair this autumn.
Karel Appels portret Fuchs naar Van Abbe – Het Parool
27 januari 2010Vanaf donderdag is in het Van Abbemuseum het portret te zien dat Karel Appel van Rudi Fuchs maakte. Fuchs was van 1985 tot 1987 directeur van het museum in Eindhoven. Donderdag geven Rudi Fuchs en de huidige museumdirecteur, Charles Esche, het schilderij een plek in de tentoonstelling Vreemd en vertrouwd.
